Surgical Instructions

Before treatment

The procedure will be performed using local anesthesia. There are typically no restrictions after the procedure that concern driving or returning to work. Our doctors are always available for consultation, should there be a problem after treatment.

Please continue taking all medications for blood pressure, thyroid disease, diabetes, and any other conditions that are recommended by your physician. If you have any questions, call our office before your appointment! Please continue to eat normally before your appointment. If you have been advised by your dentist or physician to use antibiotic premedication because of mitral valve prolapse (MVP), heart murmur, knee, hip, cardiac or other prosthesis, or if you have rheumatic heart disease, please make sure you are on the appropriate antibiotic on the day of your procedure.

All patients 18 years or under MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and be present for all appointments, including consults.

After treatment

If your tooth or surrounding gum tissue is slightly tender for several days after treatment, that is normal and there is no concern for alarm. This happens as a result of manipulation during treatment and the condition of your tooth before treatment. Do not chew food on the affected side of your mouth until your endodontic therapy is complete and your tooth is covered with a protective restoration provided by your dentist. You may continue your regular dental hygiene regimen. Please note that any discomfort may be alleviated by taking ibuprofen and acetaminophen as directed.
If there is any discomfort or swelling that is not solved with these medications, please contact our office immediately at (803) 905-4433 or call the cellphone number provided on your post op instruction sheet
