With the appropriate care, teeth that have had endodontic treatment will last as long as other natural teeth. However, a tooth that has received endodontic treatment may fail to heal or pain may persist. Discomfort may occur months or years after treatment. If so, our doctors may need to perform an endodontic retreatment. Our state-of-the-art 3D imaging allows us to determine the best treatment plan for you and achieve optimal results.

Improper healing may be caused by:

  • Undetected, curved or narrow canals that were not treated during initial therapy.
  • Failure to promptly have tooth restored after treatment can result in bacteria reentering the tooth.

In some cases, new issues can arise that expose the tooth to infection.

Once retreatment has been selected as a solution, our doctors will access the root canal filling material by reopening the tooth and carefully assessing the canals. The canals are then sterilized and filled. A temporary seal will then be added to protect your tooth. The temporary seal will be replaced by a permanent restoration to restore full functionality
